TFT LCD or Thin Film Transistor technology Liquid Crystal Display– it is a variant of LCD that uses thin-film-transistor (TFT) technology to improve image qualities. Disadvantages include narrow viewing angles and poor visibility in sunlight.

IPS LCD or In-Plane Switching Liquid Crystal Display– it is a variant of LCDIn-plane switching technology is used. This involves arranging and switching the orientation of the liquid crystal (LC) layer molecules between the glass substrates. It has better viewer angle.  It consumes less power.

Retina display– it is not a display technology but an IPS LCD with resolution 640 x 960 pixels found in iPhone.

OLED or Organic Light-Emitting Diode– it is a variant of LED in where the emissive electroluminescent layer is a film of organic compound that emits light in response to an electric current.

AMOLED or Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode– it uses a thin-film transistor backplane to directly access and switch each individual pixel on or off. This allows higher resolution and larger display sizes. OLED has brilliant color reproduction, good battery life, good screen brightness.

Super AMOLED displays-here the touch sensors placed on the display itself.This type of display are found in high end Samsung devices.

Capacitive touchscreen display consists of an insulator with coated transparent conductor. An insulator may be a glass, and a transparent conductor used is indium tin oxide. When a human (acts as electrical conductor) touches the mobile phone screen surface there is alteration of screen’s electrostatic field which is measured by processor or chipset. Advance technology is used to detect the location of touch.  As the human body is also an electrical conductor
